In Switzerland, apart from the government-owned Swissmint, there are also some private mints producing bullion which is not legal tender and is targeted at investors and not at coin collectors, such as this 1oz platinum piece.
This one-ounce platinum bar is part of a large range of bullion products issued under the Credit Suisse brand.
Credit Suisse is a company from Switzerland providing various financial services. In 1979, Credit Suisse bullion bars were first introduced (in gold), with production handled by Valcambi SA. The partnership began in 1967 when Credit Suisse acquired partial ownership of Valcambi, which later increased in 1980. Valcambi remained the sole manufacturer for the brand even after Credit Suisse sold its majority stake in Valcambi to European Gold Refineries in 2003. In 2023, Credit Suisse became a subsidiary of UBS, but they retained separate brands and operations. |
