Snowflake Bear Series - Giant Panda Treasures of Oz is delighted to present the third and final coin in Tokelau’s unique series of ‘Snowflake Bears’, capturing the beauty and playful nature of the world’s most iconic bears in their natural habitat. The much loved Giant Panda is shown on the coin chewing bamboo while snow rests on his head from the branches in the background. Giant Pandas are native to south central China. Their diet is over 99% bamboo, but in the wild they will occasionally eat other grasses, wild tubers, or even meat in the form of birds, rodents or carrion. As a result of farming, deforestation, and other development, the giant panda has been driven out of the lowland areas where it once lived and is classed as a conservation-reliant endangered species. Each coin encapsulates a hand-woven silver filigree ‘snowflake’, making each piece unique.
