In the United States, a significant number of private mints produce bullion which is not legal tender and is targeted at investors and not at coin collectors - such as this one.

This commemorative premium bullion silver round marks the 250th Anniversary of Paul Revere's legendary midnight ride.

APMEX says about it:
On the night of April 18, 1775, Paul Revere, a Boston silversmith and patriot, rode through the Massachusetts countryside to warn of an approaching British army. His urgent mission helped start a chain of events that led up to the American Revolution. Revere’s ride has become one of the most famous acts of bravery in American history.

In the years before Revere’s ride, the relationship between the American colonies and Britain had grown tense. The British government passed laws and taxes that many colonists thought were unfair. In Massachusetts, people were especially angry. Groups like the Sons of Liberty organized protests, and towns formed militias called Minutemen. These citizens were ready to fight on short notice.

British leaders wanted to stop the growing unrest. In April 1775, General Thomas Gage planned to arrest two well-known colonial leaders, Samuel Adams and John Hancock, who were staying in Lexington. He also aimed to destroy a supply of weapons stored in Concord, about 20 miles from Boston. Revere was a key part of a warning system set up by patriots. That night, he arranged for lanterns to shine from the Old North Church to signal the British route: one if by land, two if by sea. Then he crossed the Charles River and began his ride. He passed through towns like Charlestown, Medford, and Arlington, waking people and telling them that British soldiers were on the move.

Revere was not alone. William Dawes and Dr. Samuel Prescott also rode to spread the alarm. Together, they warned many people along the way. Revere was later stopped by British troops, but Prescott escaped and reached Concord to complete the mission. By sunrise, the first shots were fired at Lexington and Concord. These battles marked the start of the war between Britain and the colonies. Because of the midnight riders, local militias were ready to face the British troops. Their efforts helped shape the beginning of a new nation.

Paul Revere’s ride has become a symbol of courage and action. A poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow made the story famous, though it added some details that weren’t entirely true. Still, it captured the feeling of that night and the bravery it took to ride out into danger.

Now, 250 years later, Paul Revere’s ride still inspires us. It shows how one person’s actions, working as part of a team, can help bring about great change. His story reminds us to stay alert, stand together, and act when freedom is at risk.
