Translation | Translated from Greek (old orthography): Prince George of Greece, High Commissioner of Crete. 1901 |
Prince George of Greece and Denmark (Modern Greek: Πρίγκιπας Γεώργιος) was the second son of George I of Greece and Olga Konstantinovna of Russia. He served as high commissioner of the Cretan State during its transition towards independence from Ottoman rule and union with Greece. Although technically just a representative of the Powers and not a monarch, the effigy and legend of Prince George appeared on Cretan coinage in 1901 (only). |
