Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean, and as such its Head of State is the monarch of the United Kingdom. It is one of the most northerly of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles, lying east of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands and directly north of Saint Martin.
The country briefly seceded from the British colony of Saint Christopher-Nevis-Anguilla in 1967 and was independent until 18 March 1969, when British control was restored.
King Charles III acceded to the throne on 8 September 2022 upon the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, becoming the Head of State of a number of realms of the Crown, as well as all British territories - such as Anguilla. |
