This is one of Perth Mint's historic sets, containing a newly minted coin and a historic old coin. The old coin in the set was struck by the Perth Mint when it was still a branch of the Royal Mint, making imperial gold coinage.
The Mint says about it: Produced at The Perth Mint in 1922, the 100-year-old sovereign features Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic St George & the Dragon motif and a "P" mintmark. The coin’s obverse portrays King George V as represented by Sir E. B. Mackennal’s admired "Large Head". Presented in premium grade Extremely Fine to about Uncirculated, the coin is a welcome acquisition for any avid collector.
The Perth Mint’s Australia Sovereign features a design inspired by Leonard Charles Wyon’s 1855 reverse for the Sydney Mint’s first sovereigns. The design is embellished with a special platinum-plated representation of St Edward's Crown and a small "70" numeric privy mark in celebration of HM Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. With a mintage of 1,000, the flawless coin’s obverse portrays Jody Clark’s effigy of the Queen.
This lavish sovereign tribute is presented in a befitting prestige black timber glossed case accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. |
