In 2016, the Czech Republic marked the 700th anniversary of the birth of Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia (Bohemia later evolved into the modern state of Czechia).
The Czech Mint released four designs in a miniseries titled 700 years of Charles IV, which were issued individually in a tenth-ounce format, and then in this four-coin set in a quarter-ounce size. The four coins mark the achievements of Charles IV (illustrated by his coronation as King of the Romans), the people around him (depicting his wife Blanche of Valois), his building projects (showing the Hunger Wall in Prague) and the institutions he established - most famous of which is the Charles University in Prague. |
