This is the silver version of the United Kingdom proof coin set of the year, including the regular circulating coins plus some of the commemorative coins issued throughout the year.
It contains the definitive £2 (Four Nations type), the definitive £1 of the "Bees" type, and the smaller denominations from 50p down to 1p.
After the death of Queen Elizabeth, who ruled for more than 70 years, her son King Charles III ascended the throne.on 8 September 2022. Following the many precedents of new coinage types introduced for new monarchs, the Royal Mint re-designed all circulating denominations to mark his reign. The designs depict plants and wildlife, reflecting the monarch's interest in conservation and nature.
This is the first release of the reverse designs in "regular" coinage. They were introduced in October 2023 in a special set with a privy marks on the obverse.
The commemorative coins included in the set are a crown-sized £5 coin featuring the Buckingham Palace, a £2 coin commemorating Sir Winston Churchill, a £2 coin marking the 200th anniversary of The National Gallery, a 50p coin marking the 200th anniversary of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), and a 50p dedicated to the UK team's participation in the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.
The coins in this version of the set are in Proof FDC grade and (unlike the circulating coinage) are made of sterling silver. Also included is a booklet that explores each theme commemorated in the set. |
