The Silver Proof Pattern Collection 2004, Coin Set from United Kingdom - detailed information

Between 2004 and 2007, the Royal Mint released four £1 coins representing the four constituent countries of the United Kingdom: in chronological order - Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England. Each coin depicts a bridge in the respective country.

Normally, the Mint does not release patterns. However, in 2004 the Mint released four designs by Timothy Noad which were not adopted for the circulating coinage - featuring an animal’s head for each country: lion (England), unicorn (Scotland), dragon (Wales), and "white hart" stag (Northern Ireland). These are not legal tender and have the word PATTERN inscribed where normally the value and denomination ONE POUND would be located.
