The coin commemorates the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

Laureate bust of Queen Elizabeth II right; around, + QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND; artist's initials incuse on neck truncation, MG (Mary Gillick).

New Zealand cupronickel crowns were only minted for Queen Elizabeth II.
