This beautiful gold coin celebrates turquoise, a gemstone prized and admired by civilisations throughout history. Its special significance in Egyptian, Persian and Aztec cultures saw it fashioned into a remarkable array of striking jewellery, decorative mosaics and beautiful ceremonial objects. Classic turquoise is sky-blue in colour and is generally opaque with a waxy lustre. Turquoise also occurs in hues ranging from blue-green to green, and with black veins that lend unique character to individual pieces.
