On 1 July 1915 the Commonwealth of Australia officially accepted responsibility from the State Governments for all landfall and coastal lights around Australia. Today, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) is responsible for maintaining aids to navigation at some 388 sites along the 37,600 kilometres of the country’s coastline. This beautiful Stamp and Coin Cover will make a superb gift or collectable. Unique Reverse Design The coin’s reverse depicts a lighthouse set on a rocky cliff with waves lapping beneath it. From the lighthouse, a beam of light shines into the night sky. The design also includes the inscription CENTENARY OF THE AUSTRALIAN LIGHTHOUSE SERVICE and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark. Australian Legal Tender Coin The coin is issued as Australian legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. The coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, and the 2015 year-date. Issue Limit No more than 10,000 of the 100 Years of Commonwealth Management of Lighthouses Stamp and Coin Covers will be issues in this packaging, from an unlimited coin mintage. Official Australia Post stamp and Presentation Envelope This uncirculated aluminium bronze coin is housed in a beautifully designed card with a circular window revealing the coin’s reverse and obverse designs. Affixed to the envelope are four official Australia Post 70c stamps. The stamps are postmarked for the first day of issue and the envelope includes Australia Post’s Seal of Authenticity and official number.
