The Barbadian Dollar has been the currency of Barbados since 1973, when it replaced the Eastern Caribbean Dollar. It is normally abbreviated with the dollar sign $, or alternatively BBD $ to distinguish it from other dollar-denominated currencies. Apart from the regular circulating coinage, the country has also authorised some foreign mints to issue commemorative and bullion coins under its jurisdiction. These are typically in standard bullion sizes, such as one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). The 2022 1oz Barbados Caribbean Octopus Silver Coin is part of the Caribbean Silver and Gold series by MDM, issued in partnership with APMEX. The octopus uses its legs / tentacles for eating, moving, hunting, tasting and mating. Octopus are also masters of disguise and can alter their skin to take on different colours and textures to blend in with their surroundings. On each of the octopus' tentacles are suction cups which assist the animal to attach itself to surfaces. An octopus releases black ink when threatened by predators. | ||||||
