Coin | Gold Tenth-Ounce 2021 Prince Philip |
---|
|
The Democratic Republic of the Congo normally uses banknotes for circulation, and does not issue coins in the Congolese Franc currency. However, the country has authorised some foreign mints to issue commemorative and bullion coins under its jurisdiction.
Most of them are in internationally popular sizes, including the tenth-ounce of gold (1/10 oz) format - such as this coin.
This gold coin is dedicated to the memory of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (1921 - 2021), the husband of Queen Elizabeth II.
The "Iron Duke" had been married to Queen Elizabeth II since 1947 and was always considered an important support for the Queen. In 2017, he had largely withdrawn from the public eye due to health problems. On 9 April 2021, just two months before his 100th birthday, the Prince Consort passed away surrounded by his family, leaving behind four children, eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. The funeral took place on 17 April 2021 in St George's Chapel in Windsor. |
