Gold Tenth-Ounce 2018 Centenary of World War I, Coin from Cook Islands
CoinGold Tenth-Ounce 2018 Centenary of World War I

The Cook Islands, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar circulates in parallel with the local Cook Islands Dollar; at the same time, the government also authorises many legal tender coins in the Cook Islands Dollar currency for collector's purposes or for investment.

Many of these are in standard bullion sizes, including in the small one tenth of a troy ounce of gold format (abbreviated as 1/10oz) - such as this coin.

This coin commemorates the Centenary of World War I (one hundred years since the war ended).

In Flanders Fields
by John McCrae, May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
