|Coin||Silver Five Ounces 2017 Spider-Man|
The Cook Islands, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar circulates in parallel with the local Cook Islands Dollar; at the same time, the government also authorises many legal tender coins in the Cook Islands Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
Collector coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to the country itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes, including the large five ounces of silver format - such as this coin.
This coin was released to coincide with the release of the Marvel film Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The mint says:
When we think of Spider-Man, most of us think of Stan Lee. However, the design on the obverse of this 200 Dollar gold coin is the work of John Mercanti. Mercanti is extremely well-known for his designs and his time as the 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint.

The obverse of the coin shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.
In tiny letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley).
Around the effigy is the monarch's legend, the date of issue and the value: ELIZABETH II 25 DOLLARS COOK ISLANDS 2017.
The reverse design shows movie character Spider-Man (alternativelly spelled Spiderman) swinging forward; in the background, a large spider web. The designer's initials JM (for John Mercanti) are below the figure.
Around above in the rim, which has frosted background, the inscription SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING; around below left, the precious metal content 5oz 999 FINE SILVER (five troy ounces of 99.9% silver), followed by the copyright, © MARVEL © 2017 CPII.
