Two-ducat CR 2016 Antonín Dvořák - Rusalka proof | Czech Mint
The Mint says about this coin:
Product description A mysterious world full of magic has always reflected in art - on the canvases of great painters, the pages of books, on performing stages and in the musical notation. And people love it. They love the fantasy realm, where the impossible becomes possible and magical creatures are helping the heroes gain love and happiness. The supreme representative of romanticism in Czech music is for sure Antonín Dvořák and his wonderful opera Rusalka. The art work, which for 115 years of its existence relentlessly entrains and impresses audiences worldwide, received in 2016 a wonderful tribute also from the Czech Mint. They devoted to this musical gem a new gold two-ducat, which will please both national jewelry collectors, as well as investors, looking for an exceptionally interesting opportunity to store and evaluate their financial reserves. Antonín Dvořák has resorted to the fairy tale and the mythic motifs in his final period of life, when he composed, among others, symphonic poems inspired by Karel Jaromír Erben's Bouquet or the opera The Devil and Kate. In particular the success of this opera was extremely motivating for Dvořák and he decided to start looking for another libretto, as he mentioned in an interview in the newspaper. One of those who responded to this call, was the poet Jaroslav Kvapil, who presented Dvořák with a charming story about a water nymph who suffered for her love for a human being. He liked the story so much, that within half a year, he composed a unique piece and presented it to an enthusiastic audience. The critics identified the piece as impressive and musically inventive, with a masterful orchestration. Kvapil's libretto is then considered to be one of the finest opera lyrics with a high value of poetry, lyricism and the musicality of poetry. The Czech Mint has asked for a draft of pure gold medal weighing two ducats a proven artist Jaroslav Bejvl. He devoted to the obverse a breathtaking scene of unfortunate nymph along with a notation of her most famous aria sung to the Moon. The inscriptions on the obverse shows A. DVOŘÁK, RUSALKA and the TWO-DUCAT OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC. The reverse of the Two-ducat is decorated with a collage of of the harp, books, sculpting tools and palettes. The Ducat mintage in a limited edition of 100 pieces offers a unique opportunity to the numismatics to invest in a work of art with an attractive and patriotic overlap and get a rare addition to its cherished collection.
