Coin | Gold Ounce 1988 Red Cross 125th Anniversary |

Medals are a form of "exonumia" - objects related to coinage but not coins themselves. Such are, for example, the medals included in some Swissmint coin sets. They do not have any "face value" and are not tokens either, but can still be of interest to coin collectors.
This one-ounce gold proof medal was struck by the British Pobjoy Mint to mark the 125th anniversary of the foundation of the International Red Cross Movement.
The medal was included in a set featuring four gold "Angel" coins issued by the Isle of Man, linking it with the theme of Angels of Mercy.
However, given that its obverse features Swiss symbols, we have listed the medal under Switzerland. |
