These coins were issued in the 150th Anniversary mint sets with a mintage of 10,000. They were struck by the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra and were designed by Horst Hahne.

Crowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a pearl necklace, facing right (effigy known as the "Third portrait"); incuse in tiny letters on neck truncation, the designer's initials RDM (for Raphael David Maklouf).

Around, the monarch's legend end date: ELIZABETH II NEW ZEALAND 1990.
