Florin Elizabeth II, Coin Type from United Kingdom - detailed information

The obverse of the coin shows the laureate young laureate bust of Queen Elizabeth II facing right - her effigy known as the "First Portrait". The laurel wreath in the Queen's hair is tied with a ribbon with two ends flowing behind.

The designer's initials, M.G. (for Mary Gillick) appear incuse on the base of the shoulder truncation.

The monarch's legend runs continuously all around the bust. In 1953 only, the legend was + ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA BRITT: OMN: REGINA. It was then changed to + ELIZABETH · II · DEI · GRATIA · REGINA, dropping the "BRITT: OMN:" part (Queen of All the Britains) as it was considered to have negative colonial connotations not compatible with the new status of these lands in the British Commonwealth.

The reverse design features at its centre a rose, the floral emblem of England. It is surrounded by linked thistles, shamrocks and leeks - the floral emblems of the other constituent countries of the United Kingdom: Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales respectively.
