The Bhutan Lunar Ox coin, the sixth issue in this series, is issued in conjunction with the arrival of the 2021 Lunar Ox Year. COIN DESIGN The obverse design combines traditional and modern art styles – echoing Bhutan’s current modernization policy, where they strike a balance between modernization and staying true to their traditions and roots. Decorated with a large bloom to signify everlasting prosperity, the jovial ox is artistically designed to reflect the beauty of the evergreen Kingdom of Bhutan. Its body accented with florals, leaves and clouds, exudes the charms of the country known as the last Shangri-La of the world. The reverse coin design features Paro Valley, which is one of the most attractive places in Bhutan. As of today, there are over 155 temples and monasteries in the area, some dating as far back as the 14th century. This lush location is one of the widest valleys in the kingdom which produces tremendous amounts of grains on its fertile terraced fields that also has a beautiful, crystalline river meandering down its entire stretch.
