The Kingdom of Cambodia has used its modern Riel currency since it was re-established in 1980; in general circulation, it is mostly served by banknotes.

The country also issues commemorative and bullion coins for the international market, usually in standard bullion sizes - such as the internationally popular one troy ounce of silver format.

This design in the fourth in the Lost Tigers of Cambodia series of premium bullion coins, which features the Indochinese tigers, the largest species of tiger.

The Indochinese (or Indo-Chinese) tigers are natives of Cambodia and are also powerful religious and cultural symbols for the people that share their home. Surrounded by lush leaves of the woodlands, this coin design portrays the scenery of a healthy tiger population living in Cambodia once more.

In order for the mighty tigers to claw their way back from the brink of extinction, Cambodia became the first country to acknowledge the national extirpation of tigers in 2017 and to develop clear steps to their recovery.

The series is produced by the Singapore Mint under authorisation of the National Bank of Cambodia.
