The Republic of Liberia has been issuing its own coinage denominated in Liberian Dollars since 1847. Apart from the circulating coinage, the country also allows some foreign mints to strike non-circulating commemorative and bullion coins under its authority. These are usually dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to the country itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes, including the very large five troy ounces (5oz) of silver format.

This coin is part of the second release in the Commanders series by the Scottsdale Mint, and features General George Patton.

The mint says about it:
In the theater of war, George S. Patton's name is synonymous with remarkable strength. As an iconic figure, Patton's indomitable spirit and strategic brilliance have left an enduring mark on the tapestry of military history. Commanding tanks that rumbled and leading soldiers who rallied under his guidance, Patton emerged as a titan, navigating his forces to triumph against the chaotic backdrop of war. His methods, though testing the patience of superiors, proved so wildly successful that they rendered any opposition futile, solidifying Patton's reputation as a maverick whose unorthodox brilliance defied convention.

"A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week." - George S. Patton

Enter the realm of military prowess with the Scottsdale Mint Commander's Series, a collection that pays homage to the extraordinary leaders who shaped the destiny of nations. In the forthcoming installment dedicated to George Patton, the series unfolds a narrative that captures the essence of a man whose strategic acumen and fearless leadership echoed through the ages. Each intricately crafted coin in this series, including the upcoming tribute to Patton, bears witness to the chaos of battle through its unique ruptured edge - a symbol of the tumultuous nature of the theaters where these commanders made history.
