Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.

A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative and collector coins under the authority of Niue. One of them is the Czech Mint, which uses not only standard bullion sizes but also some formats based on the Czech Gold Ducat, including 100 Ducats weighing a massive 348.5 grams.

The coins are "Non-Circulating Legal Tender" (NCLT) and not bullion because they are issued at prices much higher than their bullion value and are targeted at collectors who appreciate them for their artistic or sentimental value, and not at bullion investors.

The Mint says about this coin:
Princess Libuše is one of the most famous figures in Czech mythology. Krok, the mythical duke of the Czechs, was a respected, ingenious and prudent man. People from all over the country came to him to judge them. He had three daughters: the eldest Kazi, a sorceress and healer, the middle Teta, a priestess speaking to ghosts, and the youngest Libuše, a clairvoyant soothsayer whom the people chose to head after Krok's death. Like her father, she fairly judged quarrels and disagreements among the people, but there were the ones who did not like her position. The shouts of the angry elder "Long hair, short reason!" and "Shame on the men ruled by the woman!" went down in history. Although the princess was strong and could punish her critics, as a wiser she decided to step down and said: “I am a woman and behave like a woman; that I do not judge you with an iron hand, it seems to you that I understand little. You need to have a caretaker over a stricter woman. Have him!”

By inspiration from the gods, she determined the place where the people found their new ruler, the legendary Přemysl the Ploughman, who became the founder of the powerful Přemyslid dynasty along with Libuše.

Obverse

The obverse of the coin shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.

In tiny letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley).

Around the effigy is the monarch's legend, the date of issue and the value: NIUE ISLAND ELIZABETH II 500 DOLLARS 2021.

The Queen's portrait is smaller than usual and is in a small circle above the centre.

Below that, the scene of a "prophetic circle", from which four columns of smoke rise. In the centre of the circle there are symbols that relate to Princess Libuše as the ruler, who "justly decides when it is time to change swords into ploughs or vice versa".

Part of the inscription around right specifies the precious metal content: Au 999,9 / 348,5 g (348.5 grams of 99.99% gold; Au is abbreviated from Aurum, the Latin word for gold).

Above the date, the mint mark of the Czech Mint - a crowned monogram of the letters ČM (Česká mincovna).

Reverse

The reverse of the coin depicts Princess Libuše in a moment of clairvoyant ecstasy. During the prophetic ritual, a "higher state of consciousness" was induced by various substances, which were heated and distributed in a circle around the prophetic person. Four columns of smoke (as on the obverse) rise and merge in the vision of the future of Prague.

The legend, according to which Libuše predicted the construction of a famous city, is also commemorated by the inscription MĚSTO VIDÍM VELIKÉ, JEHOŽ SLÁVA HVĚZD SE BUDE DOTÝKAT (I see a great city, the glory of which will reach the stars).

The monogram of the artist, JO (for Josef Oplištil), precedes the inscription, above left.

Around left and right of the figure, KNĚŽNA LIBUŠE (Princess Libuše).
