Silver Ounce and Quarter 2021 Seated Britannia, Coin from Saint Helena - detailed information

The obverse of the coin shows the crowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II, facing right (her effigy known as the "Third Portrait"). The Queen is wearing the royal diadem which she used to wear on her way to and from the State Opening of Parliament, a pearl necklace and earrings.

Incuse in tiny letters on the neck truncation, the designer's initials RDM (for Raphael David Maklouf).

Around, the monarch's legend and the date of issue: ST. HELENA · QUEEN ELIZABETH II · 2021 · £1.25 · 1.25 OUNCES 999 SILVER ·.

The inscription also contains the face value of one pound and 25 pence (£1.25), and the precious metal content - 1.25 troy ounce of 99.9% silver.

The reverse of the coin shows, within a beaded border, the figure of Britannia - the female personification of Great Britain - seated facing right, wearing a Corinthian helmet pushed back to reveal her face, resting her right hand on a shield bearing a saltire of arms, and holding a trident in her left hand.

Around the rim, the inscription DIRIGE DEUS GRESSUS MEOS. Translated from Latin, this means "May the Lord direct my steps", and was first used on the iconic 1839 Una and the Lion five pounds gold coin.

In the lower part of the rim, the EIC mint mark of the East India Company; the letters are separated by arrows radiating from the centre around which they are situated.
