Gold Quarter Ounce 2020 John Wayne, Coin from Tuvalu - detailed information

The obverse of the coin shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.

In small letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley).

Around the effigy is the monarch's legend, the date of issue and the value: QUEEN ELIZABETH II 1/4oz 9999 Au 2020 TUVALU 25 DOLLARS.

The inscription around the rim also incorporates the precious metal content. "1/4 oz 9999 Au" means "one quarter of a troy ounce of 99.99% gold" ("Au" is abbreviated from Aurum, the Latin word for gold).

The coin’s reverse design depicts John Wayne wearing his trademark cowboy hat and bandana, against a rural Western backdrop. Also included in the design is a blue border with white stars reminiscent of the American flag.
