Five Pounds 2025 The Princess Royal, Coin from United Kingdom - detailed information

The obverse of the coin displays the first definitive portrait of King Charles III, which shows his bare (uncrowned) head facing left.

Below the neck truncation in tiny letters, the artist's initials MJ (for Martin Jennings).

Around, the monarch's legend followed by the face value and date of issue: CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 5 POUNDS · 2025 ·. Translated from Latin, the legend means: Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith.

The reverse of the coin shows on the left the portrait of Anne, the Princess Royal, facing the viewer. She is wearing the Aquamarine Pineflower Tiara by Cartier, which tiara was a wedding gift from the Queen Mother in 1973. Alongside the tiara, she is also shown wearing an aquamarine pendant and matching earrings. Below the portrait on the left, the designer's initials TD, for Thomas T. Docherty.

On the right, the personal Coat of Arms of the princess as adopted in 1962. It is based on the Coat of Arms of the sovereign of the United Kingdom, and as such features a shield which is quartered and displays the three lions of England (top left and bottom right), the lion of Scotland (top left), and the harp of Ireland (bottom left). It differs from the Coat of Arms of the sovereign in its shape - it is a diamond shape, and as a differencing mark has has a "label" of three points - a thin band overlaid in the upper half, with three small banners hanging from it displaying a cross on the central one and dots in the other two. Surround the shield is the circlet of the Order of the Garter, inscribed with the motto HONI · SOIT · QUI · MAL · Y · PENSE ·, translated from old French as "May he be shamed who thinks badly of it". The shield is surmounted by a coronet (and not crown).
