Like many other mints, the Royal Mint issues bullion coins in precious metals, having much higher intrinsic value than their face value. The two ounce (2 oz) silver coins are denominated as Five Pounds (£5).
The coins are legal tender but are not intended for circulation. They are targeted at bullion investors or collectors who appreciate the special editions as pieces of art. The coins are typically "one-year" types usually issued in parallel with smaller denominations with the same reverse designs.
This commemorative two-ounce silver coin celebrating British artist George Michael is part of the eighth release in the Music Legends coin series by the Royal Mint.

George Michael went from a teen heartthrob as part of the pop group WHAM! to one of the bestselling solo musicians of all time, selling more than 125 million records. His passing in 2016 devastated millions of his devoted fans around the world. This coins is a tribute in recognition of his remarkable talent as one of the world’s most popular and beloved musicians.
Inspired by George Michael’s iconic music video for "Faith", the design is available in a range of editions that includes a colour-printed Brilliant Uncirculated edition. |

The obverse of the coin displays the first definitive portrait of King Charles III, which shows his bare (uncrowned) head facing left.
Below the neck truncation in tiny letters, the artist's initials MJ (for Martin Jennings).
Around, the monarch's legend followed by the face value and date of issue: CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 5 POUNDS · 2024 ·. Translated from Latin, the legend means: Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith.

The reverse design of the coin features a portrait of George Michael facing quarter left. Behind him, a graphic rendering of the sound waves from "Faith", represented in vertical bars on a background depicting a guitar's neck.
Below right, the inscription GEORGE MICHÆL ("GEORGE MICHAEL" rendered with the Latin ligature Æ).
Near the rim below left, the designer's signature SD (for Sandra Deiana).
