Full text | CHARLES III DEI GRATIA REX FIDEI DEFENSOR |
Translation | Translated from Latin, the legend means: Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith. |
![]() This legend is displayed on the coinage of the United Kingdom issued during the reign of King Charles III. By a long standing tradition, British coinage uses the Latin language for the obverse legends. In a departure from tradition though, the name of the monarch is given as Charles and not in its Latinised form Carolus, as was the case of the two previous kings named Charles. On coins listed below, the legend is displayed together with the face value on the obverse, while the date of issue is on the reverse. On some coins though, the date is also on the obverse; for these, see CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · [value] · [year] ·. |
