An equestrian effigy of the Queen has been used on some coins marking special royal occasions.

The first of these was designed by Arnold Machin, who also designed the Queen's second definitive effigy. in 1977:
Equestrian effigy (riding a horse, to left) of Queen Elizabeth II within (and partly breaking out of) a beaded circle. All around, the monarch's legend ELIZABETH · II DG · REG FD·. Translated from Latin: Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith. Below, separated from the legend by two floral sprigs, the date 1977.

Another equestrian portrait was created in 2002 for the Golden Jubilee by Ian Rank-Broadley, who also designed the Queen's fourth definitive effigy.

In 2022, a similar effigy was created by John Bergdahl for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee (70 years on the throne).
