This uncirculated set celebrates a new era of Australian coinage, with the newly introduced effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. The six coins in the set each feature one of Australia's six effigies of the Queen, "a unique look into the progression of Her Majesty's effigies during her reign as Monarch".
The Mint says about the set: "A new era in Australia’s coinage begins in 2019 with the introduction of a new effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Australia’s coins. This Six-Coin Uncirculated Set celebrates this historic event with a different effigy of the Queen, from 1953 to 2019, on each coin. A significant collector’s item for those interested in Australian coins, our history, or royal memorabilia."
In Australia, there have been six portraits of Queen Elizabeth II on circulating coinage: the five definitive portraits used by the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth countries, plus a special "Australian" one by Vladimir Gottwald, initially approved for the 2000 Royal Visit circulating commemorative 50 Cents coin.
The coins and effigies in the set are: - 5 Cents - with Mary Gillick portrait (1953 - 1964) - used on -pre-decimal coinage - 10 Cents - with Arnold Machin portrait (1966 - 1984) - 20 Cents - with Raphael Maklouf portrait (1985 - 1998) - 50 Cents - with Ian Rank-Broadley portrait (1998 - 2019) - final regular issue with this obverse - $1 - with Vladimir Gottwald portrait (2000) - $2 - with Jody Clark portrait (introduced in Australia in 2019) - in "uncouped" version (i.e. it shows the bust of the Queen including her shoulders, and does not terminated at the neck as on the version used in the United Kingdom) - first regular issue with this obverse. |
