Diwali is the ancient Hindu festival of lights. Observed by millions of people in India and around the world, the annual five-day festival represents the triumph of light over darkness. Celebrated with candles and lamps, fireworks, family feasts and the exchange of many gifts, Diwali is also a time to pay homage to Hindu deities, including Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, and Ganesha, the god of good fortune.

Obverse

The medallion’s obverse features a representation of Ganesha sitting on a cushion while being attended by a mouse, one of his traditional mounts, who offers sweets as a symbol of generosity.

The medallion’s reverse portrays a representation of Lakshmi sitting on a lotus flower, the symbol of enlightenment, with coins emerging from the palm of her hand.

On the left and right, the inscription happy diwali.. Around above, the precious metal content 1oz 9999 SILVER (one troy ounce of 99.99% silver).

The design also includes the Perth Mint’s P mint mark near the rim below. The designer's initials SR (for Sean Rogers) are on a lotus leaf below right.
