The Coat of Arms of the Bahamas depicting a naval battle scene, with a Royal Navy sailing ship in the foreground chasing two smaller ships in the background; in a ribbon below, the motto "Expulus Piratis Restituta Commercia" (Pirates Expelled, Commerce restored) which had been the motto of the Government of the Bahamas since early 18th century. The scene and the motto commemorate the expulsion of the pirates in 1718 and the restoration of law and order in the colony.
