The Cook Islands, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar circulates in parallel with the local Cook Islands Dollar; at the same time, the government also authorises many legal tender coins in the Cook Islands Dollar currency for collector's purposes. Collector coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to the country itself. Many of them are in bullion sizes based on the troy ounce, but some are "metric", like twenty grams (20g) of silver. The company says about this coin: The coin is heart shaped, and a smooth edge rings the coin. The reverse side of the coin bears two stylised birds alight in conversation, one blue and one red. Each bird is accentuated with selective gilding, in addition to their colouring. They flit about in a jungle of leaves, and the words “Eternal Love” summarise the coin’s intent. Birds are often used to symbolise love because they represent joy with their singing, balance with their ability to sit on any small branch, and hope because they can take wing and fly anywhere. In many cultures, birds are viewed as a spiritual link between our world and the world beyond. Because of this, birds can be interpreted as everlasting symbols of love. | ||||||
