Silver Ounce 2022 Crypto Series - Bitcoin, Coin from Niue - detailed information

The obverse of the coin shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.

In small letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley).

Around the effigy is the monarch's legend, the date of issue and the value: TWO DOLLARS · Ag 9999 1oz · ELIZABETH II · 2022 NIUE ·.

The inscription around the rim also incorporates the precious metal content; "Ag 9999 1oz" means "one troy ounce of 99.99% silver".

At centre, the reverse of the coin depicts the symbol for Bitcoin, ₿, surrounded by a design reminiscent of a Printed Circuit Board (PCB).

Around the rim, the inscriptions 1 oz FINE SILVER 2022, 01110011 01100001 01110100 0110111 01110011 01101000 01101001 (which is the binary representation of the ASCII code for SATOSHI, after the name of mysterious inventor of bitcoin), and 0.6 mBTC which is the equivalent in millibitcoins (1/1000 BTC) of the silver content of the coin on the day of its design.

It seems that the "Crypto" series of legal tender coins was initiated by a Singapore-based company called Rearden Metals, which has since become defunct. The series was later continued by other mints, with reverse designs based on the Bitcoin design.

Online traders selling these coins attribute them to the New Zealand Mint as manufacturer. However, StoneX Bullion lists them as its own product on the company's website.
