Coin | Silver Kilo 2021 Tiffany Art Metropolis - Paris |

The Republic of Palau is an island country in the western Pacific, in free association with the United States. In one way or another, the country has been under US administration since it was established, and has never had its own separate currency - it has always used the US Dollar. However, Palau allows some foreign mints to issue coins under its authority; these are denominated in US Dollars but are only legal tender in Palau, so can in a way be considered to be in "Palau Dollars", even though such a currency does not officially exist.
The coins are usually dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to the country itself. Some of them are in the very large one kilogram (1kg) of silver format.
This coin is part of the Tiffany Art Metropolis series by CIT Coin Invest, and is dedicated to the city of Paris.
The mint says about it: Over the many years that the Tiffany Art series has been in existence, numerous advances in minting technology have allowed the series to elevate to new levels every year. For 2021, CIT is proud to introduce what we believe is a quantum leap forward for this award-winning series! We are pleased to present, Metropolis.
The first in the Tiffany Art series to feature famous urban landscapes. The first city to be honoured is the City of Love - Paris. The reverse shows the French capital from a bird's-eye view highlighting selected buildings like the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and the Arc de Triomphe. You can easily lose yourself in the highly detailed huge road network thanks to the enhanced smartminting technology. The obverse pictures one of most ornate and extravagant bridges of Paris, the Pont Alexandre III. With its prominent sculptures and elements this bridge is classified as a French “monument historique”.
The Tiffany Art glass that the series is known for is done in a completely new way as you see it wind through the city as a representation of the River Seine. The way the coloured glass appears to literally divide the coin in half is a ground breaking achievement of numismatic technology! The new Metropolis Tiffany Art series starts with two stunning specifications. A 3 oz silver, 55 mm diameter Proof and an impressive 120 mm diameter silver kilo Edition that has been individually numbered. |

The obverse of the coin features the unofficial "Emblem of Palau" used on much of the country's coinage. It has an ornate shield at centre, on which is depicted the sea god Neptune, crowned and seated on a round stone and holding a trident in his left hand; on the right, a bare breasted mermaid; on the left, a treasure chest. The ground is a beach, featuring waves and a starfish. Above Neptune, a star. Below the waves, the inscription RAINBOW'S END. Above the shield is a native rowing in a single-outrigger canoe.
Around above, surrounded by three stars on the left and three stars on the right, the name of the country: *** REPUBLIC OF PALAU ***.
Below, the face value 50$ (fifty dollars).
The emblem and inscription are small and are in a circle in the lower right part of the obverse.
The rest of the design depicts a view of the Pont Alexandre III bridge in Paris. Below, the inscription PARIS je t'aime (from French: Paris, I love you). |
