![]() British artist Raphael David Maklouf created the Third definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II in 1985; it was used on the coinage of all Commonwealth countries, of which she is the monarch, until it was superseded in 1997 by her Ian Rank-Broadley effigy. Maklouf founded the Tower Mint in 1976; the mint issues commemorative coins for several Commonwealth jurisdictions. He created this effigy for coins issued by the Tower Mint or its partners, such as the Crown Mint in the US. The effigy shows an older Queen Elizabeth II, facing right, wearing the Royal Diadem and pearl earrings. On the neck truncation, the designer's initials RDM are incuse. |
