One Pound 2020 Harry Potter - Hogwarts School, Coin from Gibraltar - detailed information

The obverse of the coin shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right. The Queen is wearing the royal diadem which she wears on her way to and from the State Opening of Parliament, and pearl earrings. This is the second effigy of Her Majesty designed by Raphael David Maklouf - not to be confused with her younger effigy by the same artist, widely known as her Third Definitive Portrait - on which she wears the same crown and earrings.

In tiny letters on the neck truncation, the artist's initials RDM.

Around above is the monarch's legend and the date of issue: ELIZABETH II · D · G · REGINA · GIBRALTAR · 2020 (translated from Latin: Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen, Gibraltar); around below, the face value · ONE POUND ·.

The reverse of the coin depicts the crest of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, often shortened to Hogwarts - the British wizarding school from the Harry Potter fictional universe.

At centre, the letter H for Hogwarts, surrounded by the traditional mascots of the four houses: a lion on red for Gryffindor, a snake on green for Slytherin, a raven on blue for Ravenclaw and a badger on yellow for Hufflepuff.

A scroll is engraved at the bottom containing the Hogwarts motto DRACO DORMIENS NUNQUAM TITILLANDUS - from Latin, "Never tickle a sleeping dragon".

Around above, the inscription HARRY POTTER ™. Around below, the copyright and trademark acknowledgement: TM & © WBEI. (s20), followed by the precious metal content: 9.5g .999 Ag (9.5 grams of 99.9% silver; Ag is abbreviated from Argentum, the Latin word for silver).
