Translated from Latin: Victoria, by the Grace of God, Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith.

This form of the Queen's legend was used on the Gothic Crown; it is written in an ornate Gothic script, giving the nickname of the coin.

The design was later re-issued on many non-circulating coins made for collectors, where it is placed on the reverse because these coins were not issued in the reign of Queen Victoria and in her name.
