Full text | ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA FIDEI DEFENSATRIX |
Translation | Translated ffrom Latin: Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith. |
This legend has been displayed on British coinage during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and is associated with her "Fourth Portrait" by Ian Rank-Broadley; it was also used on the Sovereign commemoratives of 1989 with her seated effigy by Bernard Sindall. By long-standing tradition, the legends of ruling British monarchs are rendered in Latin. On coinage, these are abbreviated because of the limited space available. Below, you can find a list of the individual coins that had it on their obverse. For the same legend but with date, see separate list for legend ELIZABETH II · DEI · GRA · REG · FID · DEF · [year] ·. |
