Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself.
This 5g Silver Coin Note is part of a New Zealand Mint series of small silver foils, and was issued to mark the Lunar Year of the Pig with a Disney theme.
The Mint says about it: "This stunning Disney 5g Silver Coin Note celebrates the Lunar Year of the Pig with the lovable Mickey Mouse. It features an image of a grinning Mickey, a stylised pig and the Chinese character for pig, surrounded by delicate flora. This image has been reproduced from Disney’s Chinese Zodiac Animals collection. The unique serial number in the mintage is printed on each coin note.
The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and is issued under the authority of Niue.
The coin note is presented inside a complementary, gift-style packaging which opens to reveal space for a personalised message. The Certificate of Authenticity is printed inside the themed packaging. This stunning precious metal collectible would make a novel, and affordable, gift for any Lunar celebration." |
