Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature characters and themes from popular culture.
This coloured rectangular coin is the second in a series featuring Patronus spells from Harry Potter, and shows the Otter Patronus of Hermione Granger.
The Patronus spell is an advanced magical defense technique that uses positive memories and emotions to create a protective energy form. Patroni are often used against Dementors, dark creatures that absorb happiness and the joy of life. Hermione Granger's patronus, an otter, symbolizes intelligence, talent, loyalty and courage. The otter stands for Hermione's highly developed intellect, but also shows how important her friends are to her. The patronus also reveals hidden parts of its summoner - in the case of Hermione, who is usually very serious, these parts are lightness, sociability, cheerfulness and carefreeness. |
