Information about effigy: Queen Elizabeth II - Seated Portrait by Jody Clark

Queen Elizabeth II - Seated Portrait by Jody Clark

This portrait of Queen Elizabeth II was created by British artist Jody Clark for a series of commemorative coins issued by The Commonwealth Mint for the island of Alderney, marking the Queen's Platinum Jubilee (70 years on the throne).

Jody Clark is best known as the author of the fifth definitive effigy Queen Elizabeth II, which was used in the United Kingdom since 2015, and in other countries - most notably Australia - in an uncouped version since 2019.

This effigy is similar to the seated portrait of the Queen by Bernard Sindall which was made for a series of commemoratives in 1989 marking the 500th anniversary of the first hammered gold sovereign coin. The depiction of the Queen is reminiscent of the King Henry VII engraving of the sovereign on his throne; she is shown seated enthroned in King Edward's Chair as at her coronation, facing forward, just having received the Sceptre with the Cross, and the Rod with the Dove.
