Silver Ounce 2014 Australian Red Cross, Coin from Australia - detailed information

The obverse of the coin shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.

In small letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley).

Around the effigy is the monarch's legend, the date of issue and the value: ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 1oz 999 SILVER 2014 1 DOLLAR.

The inscription around the rim also incorporates the precious metal content. "1oz 999 SILVER" means "one troy ounce of 99.9% silver".

The reverse of the coin features a series of black and white photographs representative of the broad cross-section of society that Australian Red Cross assists. The design also includes an image of a World War I nurse, below centre.

At the centre of the reverse, the Australian Red Cross centenary logo, incorporating the inscription AUSTRALIAN RED CROSS. To the left of it, the inscription the power of humanity; to the right, 100 YEARS PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE.

The Perth Mint’s P mint mark is above right.
