The Australian ten ounces silver piece (abbreviated as 10 oz and designated with Ag for "silver") is a bullion coin format. Uniquely, in Australia there are two mints authorised to strike legal tender: the Royal Australian Mint (which also makes the country's circulating coinage) and the Perth Mint which only makes collector and bullion coins, as well as other bullion products.
Both mints endeavour to create coins with attractive designs, and to introduce new designs and themes often, in order to raise the numismatic value of the coins over the value of previous metal used.
This ten-ounce silver coin with a face value of $10 is part of the Perth Mint's Next Generation / Mother and Baby bullion coin range featuring native animals, and depicts an Australian emu and her chicks.
The mint says about it:
The female emu dominates the male at breeding time before laying as many as 15 large eggs over an extended period. However, she leaves the male to incubate the eggs and guard the newly-hatched chicks. Young emus develop rapidly, maturing to fully developed adults capable of running at great speed within a year. |

The obverse of the coin displays the bust of King Charles III, which depicts him bare-headed (uncrowned) and wearing a suit and tie, facing left.
Below the shoulder truncation in tiny letters, the artist's initials DT (for Dan Thorne).
Around, the monarch's legend and the face value of the coin: CHARLES III AUSTRALIA · 10oz 9999 Ag 10 DOLLARS ·.
The inscription around the rim also incorporates the precious metal content. "10oz 9999 Ag" means "ten troy ounces of 99.99% silver" - Ag is abbreviated from the Latin word for silver, Argentum.
