Description

A silver coin (16 mm diameter with plain edge) featuring a bare head of George VI facing left; around, GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP. ; below bust in small lettering the artist's initials H.P.

The reverse features three ears of wheat held by a curved ribbon. Around above, AUSTRALIA; around below divided into two by the stalks of the wheat, THREE PENCE, above, across the middle of the coin the date divided into two by the ears, 1943. The artist's initials tucked into the first and last bends in the ribbon K G.

During World War II mints in the United States of America and India were also employed to strike Australian coinage.

The mint mark (S or D), if any (the Melbourne Mint had no mint mark in this year) is below the right end of the ribbon above the final letter E of PENCE.

Bare head of King George VI facing left; around, the monarch's legend in Latin GEORGIVS VI D : G : BR : OMN : REX F : D : IND : IMP. (George the Sixth, by the Grace of God, King of all the Britains, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India); below the neck truncation in small letters are the artist's initials HP (for [Thomas] Humphrey Paget).

Reverse

Three ears of wheat held by a curved ribbon. Around above, AUSTRALIA; around below, divided into two by the stalks of the wheat, the denomination THREE PENCE; above, across the middle of the coin the date 1942 divided into two by the ears. The artist's initials KG (for [George] Kruger Gray) are tucked, divided, into the first and last bends in the ribbon.

The mint mark (S for the San Francisco Mint or D for the Denver Mint) is below the right end of the ribbon above the final letter E of PENCE. Coins struck by the Melbourne Mint have no mint mark.
