|Coin||Gold Half Gram 2020 Revolutionaries - Mahatma Gandhi|
The currency of Mongolia since 1925 has been the tögrög, which currently circulates mostly as banknotes due to the low value of earlier coins and the reluctance of the government to issue large denomination coins; however, the government has authorises many non-circulating legal tender (NCLT) coins to be issued for collector's purposes.
Collector coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes and are often not related to the country itself. Many of them are in internationally popular sizes, such as the half gram of gold mini-coin format.
This coin is part of the Revolutionaries collection.
The Mint says about it:
"Every revolution begins with a single act of defiance." Those words mark the legacy of one of the greatest political and spiritual leaders of modern history.
Mahatma Gandhi or just Gandhi as most of the world would come to know him, was an inspiration for so many around the world, and through his actions, proved that one person can make its mark through non-violent means. This coin pays tribute to his legacy and features an image of Gandhi that is instantly recognisable.
The obverse of the coin depicts the logo of Mongolbank (the Bank of Mongolia), which is formed as a round coin on a lotus bouquet associated with purity, delicacy and stability. Three fire flames and a blooming flower are located inside the coin. The figure symbolises eternal development and youth and the three flames represent the main national treasures. At the nominal value location the Soyombo symbol is positioned, representative of the Mongol ethnicity. There is a variation from the official logo: the name of the Central Bank of Mongolia is written below the figure as MongolBank in Latin script, and not as МонголБанк in Cyrillic which is the official script of the Mongolian language and the way the name is normally written on the logo.
On the two sides of the logo, vertically, the inscription Mongol Uls in the traditional Mongolian script.
Below the logo, on two lines the face value: 1000 TӨГРӨГ (one thousand Tögrög, alternatively spelled Tugrik).
Around below, the name of the issuing country and the metal content: MONGOLIA 0.5g .9999 GOLD (one half of a gram of 99.99% gold).
The reverse design is coloured and depicts a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi.
Around above left, the inscription MAHATMA GANDHI; next to it vertically, an inscription in traditional Mongolian script.
Around below, the date of issue 2020.
