Twenty Cents 1967, Coin from New Zealand (demonetised 2006)

With the introduction of decimal currency on 10 July 1967, the new 20 cents denomination was equal to one florin (two shillings) of the earlier pre-decimal currency. The two coins were identical in size and florins remained in circulation (and legal tender) in parallel with the new coins until they were both demonetised in 2006, when a smaller twenty cent coin was introduced instead.

Large twenty cent coins issued in 1967 circulated for 39 years before they were demonetised on 31 October 2006.

Obverse
New Zealand / Twenty Cents 1967 - obverse photo

The obverse of the coin shows the crowned and draped young bust of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Second Portrait", by Arnold Machin).

The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Rank-Broadley and the Gottwald portraits.
