Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum).
This coin is part of a Mint of Poland series featuring "lucky" symbols from Chinese culture and depicts a Money Frog.
The Mint says about it: "Are you looking for a present that will bring happiness to you and your nearest and dearest? The Mint of Poland presents a new commemorative coin which will bring to your home the aura of prosperity! A talisman bringing prosperity minted from pure silver and decorated with amber and digital printing. This unique silver coin with an amusing image of a green frog is a great gift idea.
This silver talisman is offered in an original presentation case, pleasantly decorated with a pile of coins under the close guard of a bright-green frog. Frog is a famous symbol of wealth. Since ancient times many cultures have believed that these animals attract financial prosperity. In the East it is believed that appearance of a frog heralds a prosperous future." |
