Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.

A number of mints issue a large variety of coins under the authority of Niue. Most of these are commemorative and collector issues dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - including the very large ten ounces of silver format (abbreviated as 10 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum).

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic Back to the Future film franchise, The Coin Company presents the 2020 Back to the Future License Plate Shaped 10oz Silver Coin.

Director Robert Zemeckis' trilogy about the time travels of mad scientist Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown and young Marty McFly inspired millions of cinema visitors worldwide in the 1980s. Even today, "Back to the Future" still enjoys cult status.

To celebrate the significance of 88mph - the speed the DeLorean must reach to initiate time travel, only 88 coins of this type were released.
